How is Greatest Gift different than a regular Diaper Fund?

Some baby gift registries offer parents the option to register for a Diaper Fund.

Typically, when gift givers choose to contribute to these Diaper Funds, parents actually receive gift cards to the store that provided the gift registry.

Greatest Gift's baby fund registry is different.

You get to choose what to do with the funds. You can transfer the funds directly to your 529 plan, UTMA account, savings account or even checking account. We encourage parents to save for the long run, but the choice is theirs.

Parents can choose to use gift funds to buy diapers, save for college, or go to Disney. It's up to them!

How do I add Greatest Gift's diaper fund to an Amazon registry?

Amazon's diaper fund can be restricting. Its capped at $550 total, and you can only use the funds to buy things on Amazon. It essentially works the same as a gift card.

Instead, you can create a diaper fund on Greatest Gift and share it with your Amazon registry.

1. If you're using a digital baby shower invitation, add both registries to the invite.

2. Make sure to turn off the Amazon diaper fund option to prevent confusion. Go to your Amazon registry settings and clear the "Diaper Fund" box under the "Gift Options" section. This will make sure you don't receive more Amazon gift cards.

3. If you want to emphasize your cash gift preferences, add a note on your Amazon registry. Let people know you are saving for a bright future for your baby, and how they can invest in your baby's future.

4. To add a link from Amazon's registry to your Greatest Gift diaper fund, go to your registry settings and edit the greeting section. Add a the link to your Greatest Gift gifting page.

5. If you prefer cash gifts and only want or need a few items from Amazon, keep your Amazon wish list short. Only add the things you really want.

How do I ask for money on a baby registry?

If you use a traditional baby registry, like the target baby registry, amazon baby registry or buybuybaby baby registry, only add items that you actually need. This will ensure that you get exactly what you need.

Don’t choose any unnecessary gift options just to fill out the registry.

Keep your baby registry minimalistic, only add the baby registry must haves.

In addition to the traditional baby registry, create a baby fund with Greatest Gift. Share it with your family & friends so that they have both options of cash gifts and traditional gifts.

In the cash registry, set financial goals for your baby and target uses for the funds to make potential gift givers see the greater purpose of the gift.

When gifting for a goal, gifts gain greater purpose. A $100 dollar gift can turn into a gift of college savings.

What does Greatest Gift charge for its service? What are the fees?

We're proud to offer the lowest fees on cash gifts and crowdfunding services for long term savings, college savings or baby shower registries.

Opening a Greatest Gift account is free, and there are no monthly fees.
Also, we don't ask the sender or receiver for any tips for our services.

Our lowest fees are 1.5% + 25¢. When sending a $100 gift, that means the gift receiver keeps $98.25 of the gift, and we only take $1.75 in fees.

Gift Sending Convenience Fees-

Paying for gifts directly from your bank: 1.0% Recommended
Paying for gifts with credit cards: 3.5%

Gift Redeeming Fees-

Redeeming to long term savings accounts*: 0.5% + 25¢ Recommended
Redeeming to regular checking account: 5.0%

In comparison, gift registries charge anywhere from 2.4% to 2.9%, college gift platforms either charge 5% to 10%, or "ask" for tips of 5% to even 15%, and crowdfunding platforms typically charge a minimum of 5% (or "ask" for tips of 5% and upwards!).

*Long term savings accounts include supported 529 plans, supported investment accounts, and savings accounts.

What do I need in order to redeem a gift?

In order to redeem a gift, you need to sign up for a Greatest Gift account, and verify your contact information. You will also need a US based financial account to transfer the gift funds into.

We have a list of supported 529 plans and investment accounts, and we support most savings and checkings accounts.

In order to comply with laws and regulations imposed by the United States Treasury Department and under legislation like the US Patriot Act, our payments partner Stripe may require additional identification information. We do not hold this information in our databases, and all of your information is completely secured. For more information, see the security section.

How do I receive my gift money?

Receiving your gift money is easy with Greatest Gift.

On the Greatest Gift platform, create a recipient account (for yourself, your child, or anyone else you are receiving gifts for).
Link a financial account to the recipient account. We recommend choosing long term savings destinations, like savings accounts or our supported 529 plans and investment accounts, but we also support checking accounts.
On the gift page, choose the recipient account, transfer destination, and redeem the gift.

The funds will appear directly in your transfer destination in 2-14 business days (no need to transfer money to a checking account first and then transfer from there to your savings or investment accounts).

How are gifts sent?

Sending a gift is easy and fun!

First, write a greeting and add a picture (we like to add a picture of us and the gift recipient, or just the gift recipient).
Choose a gift amount and delivery date.
Add the gift receiver's contact info - either email or a US phone number will work.
Finally, choose your payment method, and confirm the gift.
